What is An Infinity Cove?
An infinity cove (or sometimes curve) refers to a blank, usually white, backdrop designed to have zero angles or corners. This means no pesky shadows get cast behind the subject, and whatever is placed in-front appears to be floating with a background that looks as if it’s never-ending..
Why would you need one?
Infinity coves are great if you need to capture large objects or whole humans as they’re usually floor to ceiling. It allows you to play with depth perception and placement during your shoot. A similar style shot can be created using white backdrops, but you’re then restricting yourself to the size of the subject - with infinity coves you’re allowed to think big!
A lot of product photography will need to be done this way, as it creates a seamless backdrop which can easily be manipulated post shoot. It’s the same for film shoots that may require a lot of CGI or green screen; it’s the perfect blank canvas.
But what does it actually look like?
Alright then, let’s get to the good stuff. All photos below have been taken by Tim Dunk using the infinity cove at Light Space - our favourite cove of them all.
If you’re looking to use an infinity cove for you next project get in touch! We’d be happy to chat even more about how much we love our little cove, and how you can use it on your next shoot.
